Tonight is the opening for the Charleston Wedding Week photography exhibit at the Charleston Center for Photography. I’m so excited to be a part of it! It’s been a fun week getting to know some other talent in Charleston’s wonderful wedding world. I feel very grateful to have had the time to hone my skills and become part of something that fits me very well. Last year, I shot four weddings, in addition to lots of portrait sessions. This year, I’m shooting five weddings in this one month. Bring on the wedding bells!

This silhouette is perfect for today’s Faceless Friday post. The only bummer about shooting bridal portraits weeks before the wedding is that I have to keep them under wraps until the bride debuts her gown on her big day. With this bold sunset silhouette, I was able to share an image that left plenty to the imagination. Happy Friday to you!

  • Celeste Cockcroft - Jen, you have a gift. I am in awe of your photos!ReplyCancel

    • admin - Celeste, what a wonderful thing to hear! (…um, read) Thank you so much. Caryn’s crew had way more fun-per-capita than some larger weddings. So much fun!ReplyCancel

  • joanne kitchener - The photos here are just awesome, really fantastic.ReplyCancel

On the morning before a 15-family campout at the Smith clan’s farmhouse by the Cape Fear River, Rachel and Tavia joined me for some sisterly photo ops. I especially love how little Tavia alternates between being five and trying to be the stoic Big Girl.

After our session, campers started arriving and setting up their tents. We enjoyed hayrides, swinging, seesawing, smores and a flick that was projected onto a tarp mounted between the columns on the farmhouse. I was surprised we all slept until after the sun was inching up in the sky. Here’s the lawn on the morning after the photo session. Good times!

How fitting that the first-ever Charleston Wedding Week would take place when I’m shooting three weddings in nine days. April is such a magical month for Charleston weddings! I’m happy to be a part of the festivities and encourage you to check out the full slate of events. Charleston Wedding Week includes several events featuring the food, flowers, cakes and gowns from some of Charleston’s top florists, caterers, stationers and designers. Best of all, unlike bridal shows that line up gobs of vendors in a windowless convention center, Charleston Wedding Week shares all this beauty in actual wedding venues, including Boone Hall Plantation and the Governor Thomas Bennett House.

Last night, I joined several photographers to give a wedding photography lecture to a packed house at the Charleston Center for Photography. The exhibit is ready for Friday’s opening reception, so make your reservation and come celebrate wedded bliss with a champagne toast and truffles. Fun, free and fabulous. A perfect way to kick off the weekend!

  • Thomas Lester - That is one gorgeous image! Well done!ReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks so much, Thomas! It’s 3 feet tall at the exhibit. Even more bokehlicious when supersized 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Christine - Great job last night, Jen! So glad I got to see your supersized prints ahead of time. I have to miss the champagne & truffles as we will be Spring Break-bound but I hope you have a wonderful turnout!ReplyCancel

    • admin - Thanks so much, Christine. I’m more of an impassioned babbler than public speaker, but it was fun. My spring break starts Monday, after this zany weekend with two weddings. Enjoy yours!ReplyCancel

Shawn and Caryn met on Nantucket when he was in the Coast Guard. Fast forward a few (!) years, and the two tied the knot at Mt. Pleasant’s Tidewater Chapel with a couple dozen of their favorite folks. His Louisville style comes through with snappy Derby-esque details like an embroidered Lilly Pulitzer sportcoat and fun argyle socks to kick up the guys’ saddle oxfords. His adorable bride Caryn was picture-perfect in her silk dress from LulaKate and Kate Spade slingbacks. Classic pearls and happy pompom peonies by Out of Hand were the perfect adornments for this dancing queen! Love the monogrammed pashminas Caryn chose for her bridesmaids. All this fun color — and so many laughs and smiles — and you wouldn’t even know that rain and gloom threatened throughout the day.

Enjoy part one of Caryn and Shawn’s wedding day, and come back soon to see the fun reception with a delicious buffet in the gorgeous Gallery Room at McCradys. Oh, and you’ll need your dancing shoes!

You can take the cop out of Kentucky, but you can’t take Kentucky out of the cop! This groom takes some of his style cues from his hometown of Louisville, and he met his bride on Nantucket. A Charleston wedding was the perfect choice for their cozy wedding full of pink and green.

The boys are sporting snappy argyle socks from Brooks Brothers with their classic saddle oxfords. (And you can’t see it here, but they’re wearing plaid pocket squares instead of boutonnieres.) All that was missing was a lime Sharpie marker to monogram their styrofoam beer cups.

Our fave policeman, aka The Groom, is rocking an embroidered sportcoat by Lilly Pulitzer. I heart Charleston in the springtime!
