What a wonderful November afternoon I spent with this family! Although I haven’t offered mini-sessions in years, I love a maxi-session like this one – it’s a great example of why lifestyle family photography can be so fun.

In about an hour, we snagged occasional family shots while the kids led me around their Lowcountry haven, playing with dogs, wandering paths, climbing trees and visiting cows. Kids being kids is what it’s all about! Reach out if you’d like to find out more about having me capture the here and now for later.

Lowcountry Love

The South Carolina Lowcountry has so much sea-level beauty in addition to mossy oaks and lush palmetto trees. Here, some late-autumn hues. See more on my Pinterest board.

So what’s your habitat like? I hope you’ll recommend this post and reach out to schedule a lifestyle family photography session of your own. And check out my wedding photography, too — I still have some prime dates available for 2016. Happy weekend, y’all!

Here’s to another great trip around the sun capturing laughs, tears, toasts, hugs, anxiety, giddiness, graciousness and love! There’s plenty of beauty among these wedding highlights, but I hope these images make people feel all the emotions of their wedding days.

Another fun and colorful year has come to a close! From St. Simons to Kennebunkport and lots of Charleston wedding goodness in between, I had the privilege of documenting some wonderful wedding days.  One even happened at a different venue a day later than was printed on the invitations due to epic flooding. We can weather whatever Mother Nature has in store, even a steamy December.

It’s always tough to pick favorites, but here’s a glimpse of some 2015 wedding highlights plus a few proposal and portrait shots. No particular order, but loveliness in all seasons! Many thanks to these gorgeous couples and their gracious families for choosing me to chronicle the beginning of their happily ever afters. Merry New Year everyone!

145-Barefoot-and-pregnant-family-photography-by-Carolina-Photosmith-Boone-Hall-Plantation-It’s been a little wedding-centric here, but I’ve had fun shooting some Boone Hall family photography recently! One of the best things about my job as a photographer is documenting growing families. It starts with weddings and merging two families, and sometimes adorable little people are soon to follow. (This year, in particular, has been a banner year seeing wedding clients share baby announcements. How fun it would be to get them all together!)

I’ve known Heather since our single days when we worked together at a local software company. I had the pleasure of photographing the day she married Brian at the Rice Mill. They live in San Francisco, so I was happy to create some family photos for them on their Thanksgiving trip to Charleston. Evie kept us busy and kept ditching her shoes to run on the sandy oak-lined driveway and tabby surface at Boone Hall’s Cotton Dock. I look forward to meeting her baby brother in the future. Congratulations, y’all! May your new addition bring even more joy to your family.

Mandy and Brandon’s small and stylish Upstairs at Midtown wedding wrapped up my season perfectly! The couple traveled from Ohio to host a rooftop ceremony at a charming historic location on Charleston’s King Street. We started with a few photos in Wild Dunes, where they’d rented beach houses. When Mandy expanded her photography budget thanks to a relative’s gift, we were able to make time for some portraits around town before heading to the venue. Having comfortable transportation for the wedding party made this an easy way to see a bit more of Charleston before arriving for the ceremony and reception.

I love the unique elements Mandy and Brandon chose. This venue is great for more intimate events, and it was a perfect evening for an outdoor ceremony before the rooftop was transformed with the addition of a cigar station and bourbon bar. Mandy chose a nearby French chocolatier to make a croquembouche instead of a traditional wedding cake, and Christophe also made other treats and macarons for takeaways as guests left the fun wedding.

After meeting with Iulia and John last spring, I had many months to look forward to the romantic Boone Hall wedding anniversary session that Iulia wanted to bring to fruition. Iulia is Russian and has been in New York for a while, teaching dance at a Fred Astaire studio. I asked her to recount the story she told me as we wandered Boone Hall Plantation, and her charming e-mailed version follows.

“My husband came to learn how to dance so that when he will go out he will be able to attract more women, because women always like to dance. And there is not that many guys out there knowing what they are doing. So he googled Fred Astaire Dance Studio and this is how it began.”

“I was not his teacher from the beginning; his teacher got sick one day and I substituted. After that I have never switched my dance partner again. 🙂 We danced for couple months and we decided to be friends, but we both knew there was so much more than that. We have been together for a little more then five years now. Two years ago, during our dance class, John proposed to me in the middle of it, saying that this is our second beginning at the same place. We got engaged on April 7th, and a few days later, we got married at the court.”
“We did not have a wedding, and for the family and friends, we have decided to have our vow exchange ceremony on our fifth wedding anniversary, so they all will be able to celebrate it with us. Different couples do it their own way, but we both always knew, that once we have decided to be together, we wouldn’t be a couple who is engaged for a year or two.”
“As for wedding pictures we had a gorgeous photo shoot at Lyndhurst Castle at Tarrytown, New York. I was wearing a long raspberry wedding dress. We had so much fun that day, but also wanted to do it more traditionally. I am a very romantic person, so John had found this unbelievably beautiful plantation, and he took me there one weekend, probably by seeing how happy I am there, and how I completely fell in love with the place, he offered to do second year anniversary wedding shoot, and it was such a great time together! Everything was simple, but so unusual at the same time. We both felt like we were getting married again.”
